There are two types of sod we can recommend based on shady areas in the Fresno area. There is one lawn alternative that would help in filtered sun areas. First thing to always make sure you are receieving at least half of the sun through the day on the area. In hours most sod will need at least 6 hours of sun daily to get enough sun to thrive.
Areas high in foot traffic and pets would best be suited with Special Shade Blend. Hybrid Tall fescue and fine fescue mixtures have superior durability, drought tolerance, and very high shade tolerance.

Shade blend is the second best seller for Fresno California. If you have a shady lawn with high foot traffic and live in Fresno get special shade blend. Drought tolerant, deep rooting, and takes shady areas.
The mow free is a great thin bladed sod for Fresno. We enjoy using this for low maintenance and also have a native option for further water savings.
