Gardening Tip of the day

When moving to a new home try out a simple test that will give you a foundation to start from. A soil texture test will give you an idea of water retention along with simple soil composition. Take a scoop of soil from 6" dead and place it in a paper bag to dry. After about a week inside. Grind up all the soil remaining plant matter and rocks. Place in a glass jar like a spaghetti jar with even sides. Pour your soil into the jar add 2 cups of water and shake. Shake shake shake for at least 5 minutes. After twenty seconds make a one this is your sand portion. Two minutes make a line where the soil settles, and you have your silt. The last amount is clay and could take up to two weeks to settle. Now you have the soil texture amounts you can look up your type of soil!
